Gabriel Pereira Santiago

Creator of El Huevo Digital

A personal, independent and non-profit project.

El Huevo Digital grew out of a simple idea: there are still many works, artists and projects that deserve to be discovered but, for different reasons, remain outside the major showcases. This portal is my way of building a place for them.

01 — THE ORIGIN

Why El Huevo Digital exists

The Internet is full of talent, but also full of noise. Every day brings new songs, books, paintings, photographs, illustrations, texts, audiovisual projects and all kinds of works capable of moving us, making us think or opening a new door. Yet discovering them is not always easy when so much depends on algorithms, advertising budgets or existing popularity.

El Huevo Digital was created to look at art with curiosity and without compartments. Music is its backbone and the language I know best, but the project is intended to remain open to every form of creation: literature, painting, photography, illustration, film, design and other forms of expression that deserve to be seen, heard or read.

The idea is simple: to bring together different proposals and give them a place where they can be discovered without requiring them to be big, famous or commercial. What matters is not the format, but that behind it there is a work, a point of view and someone with something to express.

02 — NON-PROFIT

A project driven by cultural interest, not commercial interest

The portal was not created as a business or as a platform for selling visibility. It is a personal project that I develop and maintain because I believe independent spaces on the Internet are worth preserving.

The selection, programming, tools and different areas of the site all follow that philosophy: discover, document, share and connect.

03 — THE IDEA
“Not everything valuable appears first in a search. Sometimes you have to build the place where it can be found.” The philosophy behind El Huevo Digital
04 — MUSIC

A life connected to music

Besides developing El Huevo Digital, I am also a musician, composer and producer. Music is not something I observe from the outside: it has been part of my life for decades. That experience helps shape the portal from within, not merely as a website that displays content, but as a tool that understands how difficult it can be to create a work, stand behind it and get it to reach someone.

I experienced the music scene of the 1980s intensely, both as a musician —drummer and guitarist— and as a spectator. I have been a member of SGAE since those years, maintaining an ongoing connection with musical creation and authors' rights.

Instruments, technology and music management

I was Director of Music Computing at Polimúsica S.A., a company connected with several musical instrument and piano stores in Spain. It was a period in which music, technology, instruments and management came together, long before the digital environment completely transformed the way music is created, distributed and discovered.

Music for film

I collaborated with Alejandro Amenabar and Mariano Marín on the film Tesis, composing the music for the nightclub sequence. I also worked with Julio Medem, composing the music that accompanies the character Patricio during his everyday work on his estates.

Music production

I produced the album Mi Antología · Volumen 7 by El Pulpo de Mirasierra, as well as other productions for different artists. Production allowed me to experience music from another perspective too: accompanying an idea until it becomes a finished work.

Creating in order to understand creators

Having spent time on stages and in studios, working with instruments, production, composition and technology, directly shapes the philosophy of El Huevo Digital. I know what it means to work for a long time on something that may barely find a showcase. That is why the portal tries to provide exactly that: a place where a song, a work or a project has one more opportunity to be found.

05 — TECHNOLOGY

Building our own tools

The portal has gradually been developed with its own systems for content, statistics, radio, events, venues, utilities, forms and administration. Technology is a means to an end: it helps organise information better and allows the project to keep growing without losing its independent character.

06 — CRITERIA

Curiosity before algorithms

El Huevo Digital does not aim to decide what is 'the best'. It aims to open doors. The main criterion is that there should be something worth a second look: a distinctive voice, an idea, a work, a tool or a story that may interest another person.

07 — PRINCIPLES

How I understand the project

IndependenceThe portal keeps its own criteria and its own way of growing.
AccessGiving space to projects that do not always find it easy to reach an audience.
CuriosityLooking beyond what is already being promoted everywhere.
ContinuityGradually building a useful, living and increasingly connected archive.
